Japanese Patent Attorneys Association Supporting Fukushima Reconstruction Through the Utilization of Intellectual Property

The Japanese Patent Attorneys Association (JPAA) will be holding free seminars for small and medium enterprises in Fukushima Prefecture and be providing advice on the strategic utilization of patents and other intellectual property.

On July 19 the JPAA held a free seminar held in Koriyama city, Fukushima Prefecture where they conducted panel discussions, discussed concrete ways a company can use intellectual property strategies, and exchanged opinions with IP experts. The seminar was very successful with over 200 people attending the event as well as the Minister for Reconstruction.

By supporting small and medium-sized enterprises in the intellectual property field, the JPAA hopes to help facilitate the reconstruction of the damage caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake and the subsequent nuclear accident.

Following the seminar in Koriyama City in July, the JPAA will continue to hold the seminar at 100 different locations nationwide over the next two years and are calling this outreach project the "IP Promulgation Squad". By holding seminars nationwide, the JPAA is striving to promote the protection of Japanese SME's intellectual property rights. Moreover, our firm president, Tomohiro Sakamoto, is serving as the Executive Director of the "IP Promulgation Squad".
