BIOGRAPHYKunihiko SATO studied chemistry at the Nagoya University's Faculty of Chemistry.
Mr. Sato joined the Japanese Patent Office in 1982 and registered as a patent attorney in 2013.
After joining the patent office, he gained practical working as both an examiner and working on the Board of Appeals.
While working as an examiner at the JPO, Mr. Sato predominantly examined applications related to polymers, and more specifically he was responsible for applications related to conductive plastics, phenol resins, amino resins, polyoxymethylenes, natural polymers, and synthetic reactions of olefinic resins in general.
While working on the Board of Appeals, Mr. Sato was involved with resin applications. He also worked on post-grant proceedings and invalidation trials.
Mr. Sato later left the JPO and began working at ISONO International Patent Office where he worked on cases involving invalidation trials, appeals of final rejections, information disclosures, and lawsuits for the cancelling trial decisions.
Because Mr. Sato is experienced in the areas of examination and trials at the JPO, he is also skilled at searching for useful prior art that can be used for invalidating patents, for objections, and for various intermediate proceedings. He is also skilled at reading both English and German language documents. By taking full advantage of his long experience at the patent office, he is able quickly and effectively respond in detail to the needs of our clients.

PRACTICE AREASMr. Sato is a certified patent attorney who specializes in affairs related to Intellectual Property rights. He has done work in the areas of prosecution, prior art searches, appeals and litigation related to patents, designs and trademarks particularly in the areas of chemistry.
