BIOGRAPHYMingLi HOU studied chemistry at Beijing Normal University's Faculty of Science. She then went on to obtain her M.S. in chemistry education at Liaoning Normal University's Graduate School of Science Education. In Japan Ms. Hou completed studies at Tokyo University of Science's Graduate School of Innovation Studies where she received a master's degree in intellectual property strategies.
The 2010 Shanghai World Expo song plagiarism incident had a profound impact on Ms. Hou and prompted her to pursue a career in the field of intellectual property.
In 2014 she passed the Chinese patent attorney examination.
At Sakamoto and Partners Ms. Hou is responsible for the Chinese intellectual property applications for Japanese companies primarily in the areas of chemical manufacturing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, chemical agents manufacturing and food manufacturing. She also is involved with Chinese companies who are applying for patent rights in Japan.
Ms. Hou always tries to be a good listener and to meet her clients' needs. She utilizes the knowledge and experience she has of both China and Japan in order to support Japanese companies and help them streamline the intellectual property application process and enable clients to more efficiently receive intellectual property protection in China.
PRACTICE AREASMs. Hou is a certified patent attorney who specializes in affairs related to Intellectual Property rights. She has done work in the areas of prosecution, prior art searches, appeals and litigation related to Chinese patents, Chinese designs and Chinese trademarks particularly in the areas of organic chemistry and inorganic chemistry.
