Attorneys from Sakamoto and Partners Attended Judicial Symposium on Intellectual Property

On October 31 and November 1, the Supreme Court of Japan, the Japanese Intellectual Property High Court, the Ministry of Justice, the Japan Patent Office, the Japan Federation of Bar Associations, and the IP Lawyers Network Japan hosted a 2-day Judicial Symposium on Intellectual Property in Tokyo

The first day of the program contained mock trials from Japan, Germany, France, the U.K., and the U.S. Several of the presiding judges are judges presiding over actual IP cases in their own countries. The presiding judges included Ms. Makiko Takabe, the Chief Judge of the Intellectual Property High Court in Japan, Mr. Peter Meier-Beck, Presiding Judge of the Bundesgerichtshof, Mr. Richard Hanson, Presiding Judge of the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court, and Mr. Richard Linn, Circuit Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

The second day included Panel Discussion on case studies with the heads and representatives of the Japanese, U.S., and European Patent Offices discussing how each office would approach the analysis of the cases and what the likely result would be.

Two of the Attorneys at Sakamoto and Partners, Ms. Hiroko Nakajima and Ms. Maria Abe, were able to attend the event and broaden their knowledge.
